How to Get From Punta Cana to Samana

In August, over 620,000 tourists visited the Dominican Republic.

Now that it's safe to travel, people are making up for lost time and booking their trips. Puna Cana and Samana are great destinations, and people from all over the world come to visit.

If you've been considering booking a flight to the DR, now is the time. You may have some questions about how to get from Punta Cana to Samana. You'll learn everything you need to know about different transportation options from the Puna Cana Airport.

Take the Bus

The first option you have is to take the local bus. When you land, you'll walk outside the terminal, and you'll see a bus stop. The buses run about every 30 minutes, so you'll wait there until the next one arrives.

This is the cheapest option, and it'll cost you about $20 dollars. Prices may vary based on the time of year you go. One of the downsides is that it takes a much longer time for you to reach your destination.

On average, the whole trip from Punta Cana to Samana will take 7-8 hours and roughly four buses to get to Samana, depending on your final destination. If you're traveling on a budget, this is going to be the best choice, but if you're on a stick schedule, you may want to opt for different transportation.

Pre-Order an Uber

The Dominican Republic does have Uber, so you can schedule one to pick you up at the airport. To catch your Uber, you will need to walk well outside the terminal since Ubers are not allowed to pick you up right at the exit terminal. Aside from this, you'll be able to use your app like normal.

The average drive time in an Uber is going to be about 5-6 hours. The cost is going to be much more expensive at about $250.

Please keep in mind that Uber drivers only get a cut of the price you pay Uber, making it so that many trips are not worthwhile. When requesting an Uber in Punta Cana and especially for such a long trip as this, expect to have to negotiate with the driver to ultimately pay more than the rate on the app.

Punta Cana Taxi

Getting a taxi is going to be really similar to an Uber. They are available 24/7, and there are plenty and the airport, so you won't have trouble getting a ride.

It's the same drive time as an Uber and about the same price. You can expect to pay close to $270.

It's likely that you've already had a long travel day and want to spend the least amount of time in the car as possible. Getting a taxi is going to be one of the easiest ways to get to your final location.

Rent a Car

Renting a car is always an option as well. Keep in mind you'll need to have a place to park. Some Samana resorts may not have parking available; be sure to ask your hotel or Airbnb host prior to renting the car.

The last thing you want is to get to your hotel and spend hours searching for safe parking. One of the best things about renting a car is you can make as many stops as you want on the way to Samana. If you want to drive straight there, you can, and if you want to sightsee a bit, you also have the opportunity.

It'll be about $40 a day to rent a car. You can expect the price to go up if you're traveling during the busy season.

Private Shuttle

A private transfer is another great option when you're traveling to Samana hotels. It can make the long drive more pleasant, and it's really convenient.

You can pre-schedule the shuttle to pick you up. This will make your travel day a lot less stressful if you don't have to worry about how you're getting to your resort.

Booking a private shuttle is really easy, and if you book with a reputable company, they will be responsive and communicative. Typically private shuttles hold five to six people, so if you're traveling in a group, this is going to be the best option.

Finding a Company

When you're researching a private shuttle company to pick you up from the Punta Cana airport, there are a few things you need to look for. First, the company should have a working website that is easy to navigate. You should also read reviews.

If you have questions, a reputable company will be able to answer them, and they should get back to you quickly. If you don't hear back from the company between 24 and 48 hours, it may be best to look for another one.

Take your time deciding which transportation method is best for you. You may decide to opt for a more expensive mode of transport from Punta Cana to Samana because it's easier and more convenient. You don't have to worry about figuring out directions, and you can pre-book it, so once you land, all you have to do is get on the shuttle.
